Strauss and Korngold had much in common.  Both began composing around the age of six.  Both wrote works in nearly all musical genres: chamber, orchestral, instrumental, opera, ballet.  Both produced Lieder (“songs”) – ........ complete review

 

 

Korngold Orchestral premiere

A splendid new CD of music by Erich Wolfgang Korngold including the world premiere of a hitherto unknown work - Der Sturm composed in 1913 - has just been released on ASV (DCA 1146) featuring the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz, conducted by Caspar Richter. It also features the premiere recording of additional music from the incidental score to 'Much Ado About Nothing', a splendid performance of the Cello Concerto and excerpts from the operas Das Wunder der Heliane, Der Ring des Polykrates and Die Kathrin. On September 10, at 21.00 (GMT), a new BBC TV documentary on Korngold in Hollywood featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Leonard Slatkin, will air on BBC4. It Includes film clips, interviews, home movies, private recordings and much else besides. Please tell anyone that might be interested!

Korngold Lieder Premiered

Baritone Dietrich Henschel and pianist Helmut Deutsch feature on a new

They range from Zwolf Eichendorff Lieder , written by the 14-year-old prodigy Harmonia Mundi CD in a recital of lieder by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Many of these works have never been recorded , published ,or performed before. Korngold's manuscripts are housed in the Library of Congress in Washington DC , and proved almost impossible to decipher. It is through the painstaking work of Deutsch, over the last five years , that we are now able to hear so many of these songs .

and carrying the inscription "So Gott und Papa will" (no opus number) , to his Funf Lieder Op 38 composed in 1948.

The disk, containing Opp 5 , 9, 14 , 18 , 22 , 27 , and 38 will be released in the UK in October .

The 3rd CD in the ASV Orchestral series featuring the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz is now released! The CD number is DCA 1131.

The featured artists are Gigi Mitchell-Velasco (mezzo soprano) and
Stephen Gould (tenor). The conductor is Caspar Richter.
