"I can recall the name of [no other youthful composer] who was already a master of the most subtle musical idiom of his day and had at his command a fund of ideas that the best of living composers would not disdain to possess."

- Ernest Newman
The Nation, 24 Aug 1912

Select Performances

It is impossible to keep track of every performance of Korngold's compositions. We cannot claim to list them exhaustively, but below are some highlights of upcoming performances that may be of interest or note.

The Korngold Project (South Africa)
2 Pianists

The South American record company TwoPianists Records tells us the following:

For the past ten years, the University of Stellenbosch has hosted the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival. Three years ago, one of the evening Faculty Concerts at the Festival included one of Korngold’s chamber works. The audience and musician response was “…absolutely raving, so it was decided to include Korngold's chamber music in at least one of the faculty concerts every year.” In 2012, the musicians usually assigned the Korngold work decided “…to capture the extraordinary synergy of the group and Korngold's musical genius, so the Korngold Project was born.”

As the first part of a double-CD recording project, the musicians Daniel Rowland, Priya Mitchell (violins), Julian Arp (cello) and Luis Magalhaes (piano) will perform Korngold’s Piano Trio op.1 and the Suite op.23 this May on three consecutive nights. The programs also feature works by Mahler and Schubert, to highlight the Viennese connection between all three composers. These two works will be recorded for the first CD, with Korngold’s String Sextet op.10 and Piano Quintet op. 15 following in 2014.
